    About the Artist:
    Internationally known painter and one of the premier artists (1899-1972) that Oregon has ever produced. Grew up in Roseberg. In high school, a local benefactor offered up a year at the prestigous San Francisco School of Art. In 1919 at age 20, landed a job at the Oregonian as an illustrator. In 1925 he and his talented sister Amanda (Snyder) took art lessons from a well known English portrait artist Sydney Bell. Studied at the Chicago Art Institute. Opened a commercial Art Agency in NY doing magazine art covers, such as Time and Colliers. Got enthusiastic reviews in several one man shows in New York and Paris. Returned to Oregon (Lake Oswego) in 1963.

    Credited with a wide ranging, diverse and masterful body of work that included portraiture, landscapes, occupations and scenes from his well traveled life.
